Pop culture shapes our reality in a way that rarely leaves space for any introspection. As the music in our head becomes louder with each passing moment of ‘evolution’, the voice of reality keeps getting lost. Life is crowded now, and we no longer experience an event, rather seem to skim through it as our duty or responsibility.
We have stopped caring about how the work gets done and focus more on whether or not it gets done by the due deadline. This means we do not seem to care much for the work than for the delivery of it and we do not do it to learn from it but rather, to earn from it. How then, will we ever get better? If this goes on the least we will maintain is stagnant mediocrity of work from where we will inevitably get fired for not being able to contribute any ‘more’ or ‘refine’ our skills.
If human beings are essentially running in a race, I bet you too are thinking the same thing just a few lines into this blog that perhaps what we are running down is the rabbit hole! There is no wonderland at the end unfortunately, because there is no finish line.
I need you to pay attention to this, where exactly do you stop then? With deadlines and responsibilities chasing you. Where do you find a moment of peace? Most importantly, if you manage to find it, what do you do in this moment? I would like to introduce a small exercise. Most of you would think it hardly makes a difference, but trust me, it will make a big difference.
Consider JOURNALING. An exercise in both mental and physical health that is bound to give you a newer approach to your own work. The funny thing about routine is, as much as we would love to discredit it, even then it is full of differences. All we need is the eye to notice them!
Once you start documenting and keeping a record of your events and experiences, you allow yourself the moment to recall what you did, how you did it and if it could have been done differently. Because, the only thing that keeps you from getting stagnant is if you learn from your mistakes.
Journaling may also turn beneficial in terms of better memory, speed and coherent planning. You can do it in various ways. From making pointers to paraphrasing your daily dose of life into a story, it can be your work, it can be your trip!
Most importantly, it unites you with your inner voice. That way, it is much of an exercise in leading a healthy life itself. All said and done, learning from your mistakes broadly covers everything between your work-life balance and is a therapeutic and self-caring way towards productivity.
So learn, unlearn and get better!😊
