Hola amigos! Meet the analog method for the digital age that will help you track the past, order the present, and design your future. Bullet journaling popularly known as BuJo was created by Ryder Carroll.

According to him, bullet journalling will show you how to go from passenger to pilot of your life through intentional living. And according to me, bullet journaling will show you how to have a little fun just by yourself!

What is bullet journaling?

Equal parts day planner, diary, and written meditation, bullet journaling turns the chaos of coordinating your life into a streamlined system that helps you be more productive and reach your personal and professional goals. With sections to log your daily to-do’s, monthly calendar, notes, long-term wants and more, your BuJo is customized to your life. (Entries are tagged with bullet points, dashes, and other graphics so you can see their categories at a glance.)

By updating it daily,“you learn how to get rid of things that are distracting you and add things you care about,” Carroll says.

How do I start bullet journaling?

Before jumping right to the answer, ask yourself: What do you want the bullet journal to do for you? Once you have a general idea, build a system that suits your needs and art skills.

The following tips can be useful for everyone, however they are primarily catered toward beginner bullet journalists!

1. Just start

I think that when you first find the bullet journal community, things can get a bit overwhelming! Just thinking about all of it can easily overwhelm a beginner. The best way to begin a bullet journal is to just start- grab whatever notebook and pen that you have, and try to create something!

2. Start out slow:

You’re going to be excited but if you get too carried away- it might lead to burnout, which isn’t what we want! Try to take it slow with easier spreads.

3. Customize it to YOU

The absolute best part about the bullet journal system is that it’s 100% customizable- so make your bullet journal fit your lifestyle! You like unicorns? Put them in your spread. You fantasize cupcakes too much? Go for it, put them. Open up your mind to all possibilities!

4. Don’t compare!

Everyone makes mistakes, and the longer you bullet journal, the more you’ll get used to it. I used to rip out entire pages from my first bullet journal because I didn’t like the way a spread would turn out (I’m really exposing myself here LOL). But the longer i continued bullet journaling, i got used to overlooking the tiny mistakes and just going with the flow!

5. Pick a “planning day”

Pick a day to plan- I do Sunday! I like to use this day to make my spreads, plan out my week and organize everything.

6. Consistency is key!

To really implement the system into your life, try to use your bullet journal often so that it slowly gets integrated with your normal life.

7. Don’t stress too much

If you feel like making spreads and keeping up is stressing you out, maybe take a step back. I have a lot of spreads in my bujo that are extremely minimalistic- because i needed that! At the end of the day, your bullet journal is there to help your life- not to stress you out.

8. There is no “right way”

Your bullet journal can be however you want it to be- minimal, artsy, lined, dotted, colorful! Go for what makes you happy, because this is YOUR journal, none of the public’s journal! Have fun with it!

And those are all my beginner bullet journal tips! I hope that you found these useful. Go on! Right away, get started on your own BuJo.

Remember, you do you pal!
