Studying at home sounds like a myth,no? Especially in brown families with the constant pressure cooker noises and the annoying younger sibling for a roomie!
But guess what? It’s definitely not something impossible. Where there is a will, there is a way!
I’m here to help you study better at home.
Remember that studying is both physical and mental. That’s why I’ve dedicated an entire blog on how to study, better!
- Make your bed
I know, I know, as absurd as it sounds to you; so does it to me. But hear me out! When you make your bed, you are starting your day right with a good dose of productivity. It means you will program yourself to do the right thing. Trust me, making your bed will give your day a great start.
2. Organize your notes
Yes! Do the extra cliche, yet extremely helpful “organising of notes” and writing down your “to-do” list. This will give you a mental layout of all content you have to study.
3. Memorize facts
Millennials tend to tell each other constantly how they find it better to “understand” than “rote-learn”. But get this straight, not everything you understand, will you be able to recall during the exams. So instead do this, do rote memorization with a little bit of understanding sprinkled in. Learning how to retain loads of information by memorizing is ideal if you want to remember stuff in a test or exam.
4. Write out questions
Create questions from your work.I love to make up questions to help me remember better. I have this theory that I was really good in primary school because all I had to do was remember answers to questions. As you advance to high school and college, things get a bit sticky. We’ve to learn to write essays. So, learn to incorporate question and answer style studying into your routine
5. Make it fun
Let’s all admit it — studying can get mind-numbingly boring! That’s why it’s good to spice things up once in a while. Making studying fun can mean busting out your colorful markers and putting your calligraphy skills to good use. You can also spice things up by using flash cards. Make infographics online! The list is endless.
6. Take breaks
Studying non-stop is not usually a good idea. That is, if you’re not studying last minute. If you are, all the luck to you — keep going! But i also suggest, avoid last minute studying as too much piles up in too little time.
It’s great to study for a long time, don’t get me wrong. In fact, there’s this girl on YouTube who has a video of her studying for 14 hours in one day! The thing is, if you want your study session to be more effective, it needs breaks sprinkled in between. A cup of coffee or a quick episode of ‘Friends’ didn’t hurt nobody!
7. Boost your mood
This is a super important factor in your betterment in studying from home. Treat yourself and make sure you feel fresh/calm before you rest your buttocks on the study-table chair. I like to enjoy some music before falling into the seriousness of the day. Do what suits you. Jamming out to pop music works wonders!
You need to know how to create study habits, and how to train your mind for studying. All the best champ. You got this!
