Ever since the dawn of civilization, mankind has suffered from the stress and anxiety of survival itself. Existence has often times proved out to be an unbearable burden, partly caused due to the development of technology and science in our world. One would say that this development has surely made our lives easier, but what has it cost us, in return? Well, the answer is simple- the loss of our spiritual centres.

As people who live in a ‘modern’ world, we have everything available at our resort with a tiny click on the screen, but what we cannot seem to turn on with a click is, our peace of mind. We have the means to obtain everything that is material, but none of it matters if we don’t have the calmness or the patience to relish the simple pleasure of our present moments.

So, how do we obtain this patience? What is the solution? There is not so much a solution as there is a way to make it better. Meditate! Yes. Our financial and professional success is distancing us from what is most important in the Now moment, because we always have the incentive of being able to make our Tomorrow better. We never stop to consider, what is the point of these impulses?

If you ask me, I could tell you or I could paraphrase what Buddha implied. Our inability to control what will happen in our life next is the constant and primary source of our anxiety. It all roots from this instinct. Everything we do to keep ourselves engaged is exercising a false sense of control, with our routines and time-tables — frustrating us all the more.

This is where spirituality comes in. The practice of Buddhahood and meditation is the only thing that can make us come to terms with this anxiety, without letting it wash our life away. Being spiritual, is nothing like being religious, your mind is your spiritual centre that forms an alignment between how you feel and what you are surrounded by. This alignment helps you to act, rather than react.

The best way to do it is through meditation. While we calm our senses, breathe in deeply and give our mind and body the chance to heal from the exhausting schedules we put through, each day. For once each week, instead of distracting ourselves by overworking or overstressing, we need to sit back and try to meditate.

Relax your mind, calm your nerves, awaken the spiritual being in you that is not afraid of what might happen, but enthusiastic about what can happen now, in this moment while you are here.

You can do it, all of us can. Spiritualists believe that there is a Buddha in all of us, meaning, we all have the potential to be calm and poised regardless of the uncontrollable events that keep pushing us, off the edge. If only we sat with ourselves, more often, and listened to the whispers of our mind — “Don’t worry now, you will be alright.”
