It is funny how this one term or topic can generate a variety of responses among different readers. While some of you may think it is yet another overrated write-up on Mental care and well-being, others may have no sensitivity towards how or why it becomes important.
With our education and exposure, we seem to take it for granted that Mental Health is a part of our holistic self-care routine. I don’t mean that we tend to stigmatize it, but we also don’t invest our energy into thinking about it. The impact of mental fitness on our work is often considered minimal, till you realize it is literally all that matters and makes you productive.
What, shocked? You must be.
Maintaining our mental being is not supposed to be a task, just a regular trip to self-care, like your appointment to the dentist each month or a full body check-up where you aim to avoid getting an extreme illness. Any form of mental illness if left unchecked and uncared for, can have a similar repercussion.
Just think about it like this, your mind is responsible for all that you do and every goal you achieve. It makes you who you are, and it is as alive and as human as you are. Does it not then, deserve a day off and the same care and respect?
So, Mind your Mental Health. Follow the steps, and trust me, the only thing rendering you incapable of achieving anything in life, is just that little voice inside your mind. Listen to it and –
1. When it gets too much, the workload, the pressure, you take a break or a holiday. You owe it to yourself. Not only will it benefit you, it will also generate a more productive outcome at work when you come back.
2. Talk to someone. There is no shame in seeing a therapist, or having someone in your counsel to direct you towards something that is frustrating your mind on your own. A little bouncing of thoughts with another person helps in relieving the stress.
3. Try to do Yoga and meditate as a part of your everyday lifestyle. Not only will it impact how you perceive the world, but it will also be rejuvenating.
4. Do not forget that it is your mental health above everything else. You are because your mind is, and so is, everything else!
